THE CAMPAIGN 2019-2020

“An extraordinary Gesamtkunstwerk, it is a total work of art… an incredible ensemble and it has to be preserved as it is - and it’s urgent.”

A campaign to preserve the incredible, Gerry’s Pompeii in its integral physical and social context in the housing association flat on Hormead Road, West London, ran from 2019 - 2020. Led by Sasha Galitzine, a huge amount of support was garnered with a broad-base of support from the local-community as well as the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Stephen Fry, Paloma Faith, The Mayor of London, Arts Council England, The National Trust, City & Guilds of London Art School and many more.

The intention was to raise £500K to buy Gerry’s flat from Genesis Notting Hill housing association to conserve what he had created there. Despite £300K of pledged donations, Covid struck, fundraising was halted and due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to save Gerry’s house and main garden. We want to extend a massive thank you to all of those who helped us so far on the wild journey of trying to protect Gerry’s. Each and every donation, big and small and all the support did not go unnoticed!

Special thanks to Gerry’s Soldiers

We want to thank all of you hundreds of incredible humans who have given your generous time to help, advise, share, visit, support, donate or put your name to our letters of support, all of which have been vital in keeping our campaign to save and preserve Gerry’s Pompeii alive… particular thanks goes to Gerry’s friends, neighbours and campaigners on Hormead Road.

His work is not only a part of the architecture of the building, it’s also an integral part of the local community.”
