Come and join our Verry Gerry Christmas workshops on Saturday 30th November, Paddington Arts.
On 30th November we will begin our day of workshops with a tour of Gerry's Pompeii to inspire you to make brilliant resourceful Christmas creations! From 11am onwards we will be at Paddington Arts where we will host 2 workshops: Ornamental Christmas Kludge Klub with fabulous artist John Walter and Repurposed Wreaths with the incredible Molly Moon-Carr. 10am: Tour of Gerry's Pompeii - meet at 48a Hormead Road
11am: Workshops held at Paddington Arts, 32 Woodfield Road, W9 2BE
*Please note light snacks will be provided but you will need to bring a packed lunch.
Gerry Dalton was known by his neighbours as very generous at Christmas. He’d wrap up bottles of drink and sparkly objects he thought would amuse as presents; sometimes he’d even wrap up some of his artworks. He’d send postcards to his neighbours with cryptic allusions to ‘the garden’ without specifying that it was his filled with his artworks.
Gerry’s artwork was bright and sparkling, its brilliance reflected in the canal water opposite, he talked about painting over existing paintings to ‘bring the colours out’. Gerry also had a mirrored plaque in the garden with the words ‘leave a little sparkle wherever you go’ these will all be points of inspiration to the Verry Gerry Christmas workshops. Gerry was also very resourceful and often incorporated found and recycled objects into his work, from Clown wrapping paper adorning the inside of his Westminster abbey to 7Up bottles for the background of his figures’ labels. As much as possible we will be using recycled and found objects for our workshops.
Workshops and tour of Gerry's Pompeii!
Repurposed Wreaths with Molly Moon-Carr.
Our Repurposed Wreaths workshop will be run by forager and forest school teacher Molly Moon-Carr who runs a creative workshop space in Crouch End called Outdoorium. We will be creating one-of-a-kind mosaic mashup baubles to give a Gerry flare on your foraged wreath. All materials will be provided alongside a warm festive and foraged brew!
Ornamental Christmas Kludge Klub with artist John Walter
Join the Ornamental Christmas Kludge Klub! Come and make a decoration with artist John Walter inspired by Gerry’s Pompeii. The workshop will celebrate Gerry’s mosaic approach to joining together diverse objects and images, and John’s interest in shonky things; the make-do, ad-hoc, jury-rigged, improvised, provisional, hacked, repurposed, shortcut, workaround, and the kludged. During this workshop we will draw and sculpt, design and make an ornament to join together two found objects, which you can either bring with you or choose from things that we’ll supply. What ornament can you make as three-dimensional glue / hinge / bridge / join between the two objects that you choose? A scroll? An arabesque? A leaf? A Pattern? You decide, and John will help you make it happen, and make it weird, beautiful and fun! Maybe you can use your Christmas Kludge to decorate your door?!

Hormead STOMPer Workshops!
OPEN TO ALL AGES
Ever fancied making radical rhythms together? Come join us for 2 free workshops of rhythm and fun at Paddington Arts, culminating in a performative experience at the Gerry's Pompeii Christmas event! Former Hormead Roader and STOMP co-deviser Carl Smith will be leading these hands-on workshops where you'll learn to create music using everyday objects.
Gerry's Pompeii aims to continue the legacy of the late Gerry Dalton and the artwork he created around him. Gerry was very resourceful and often incorporated found and recycled objects into his work, from Clown wrapping paper adorning the inside of his Westminster abbey to 7Up bottles for the background of his figures’ labels. STOMP also uses found objects, which is something that fits with Gerry's approach.
No musical experience required – just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to stomp, clap, and drum your way through the day. Any creative talents are welcome and encouraged!
